EWWD Academy Intern Diaries: Rotation 2 - Becca
EWWD Academy Interns have just finished their second rotation we spoke to Becca Tirsolea, who has just finished her rotation in the HR, Admin and Finance department. Read on to learn about her experience and what she learned.
What skills did you learn from this department?
I learnt a lot! The finance part of the rotation was the most challenging for me as I went in with next to no knowledge on what QuickBooks even was, let alone how to use it. I also got to grips with Outlook; although I have had an outlook email for many years, I had never made use of its functions which became important when it came to arranging interviews or booking meetings. I also learnt about Canva for making posters, which I enjoyed doing.
What has been your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge was having a lot of deadlines and managing my time to meet them. Having had a long list of things to do all at once, it was important I planned my day and wrote lists to keep track of my tasks, and as time went on, I found it much easier to manage my workload. I was also introduced to Trello which is essentially an online to-do list and that helped massively.
What have you enjoyed the most about the internship so far?
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working in the HR/Admin/Finance department because it is a constant, fast-paced environment where the line manager and the rest of the team are incredibly supportive. I’ve also enjoyed getting to know the rest of the team at HexTransforma as many of them come from very different backgrounds.
If there’s one thing you could improve, what would it be?
Sometimes I feel as though the company-wide communication could be a little more clear and concise so that everyone is on the same page about things and we are all aware of the changes and events taking place.
When do you have the most fun at work?
I have the most fun when I get the chance to work alongside the other interns on certain tasks, I think because we’re all in the same boat and it is nice to see what the others are getting up to and how it interlinks with my tasks too.
What has been your most successful project to date?
I wouldn’t call it a project, but when I was in charge of some of the recruitments, it was a little daunting. It feels a lot worse if I made an error when booking a candidate in for an interview than booking the wrong time for a meeting with a colleague! There are many elements in the process including screening CVs, contacting candidates, taking notes and updating the recruitment register. After some time, I got into the flow of things and I felt accomplished being able to take on the recruitment process.
What do you like about working at this company?
Similarly to what I said before, I like the people here as we’re so varied and it’s exciting to work alongside people who come from all sorts of different educational backgrounds, countries and departments. We’re all very different but we still find common ground when going out for lunch in town!
We're wishing Becca the best of luck in her next rotation! You can also see her previous blog on our website here.
